It is said to have earned its name, meaning \u201cblack letters,\u201d from the distinctive black speckles found on its branches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditionally, kuromoji has been used to make elegant toothpicks served with high-quality Japanese sweets, making it a familiar material to those who practice the tea ceremony.
